Top 3 Things for Summer Family Fitness

Updated: Dec 1, 2020

Kids Screaming, Parents groaning, lazy days by the pool are calling and then the workouts start fallingL. It happens every summer. It’s hard trying to fit it all in. Here are 3 hidden gems that will keep you and your family staying fit and combating the lazy

days of summer.

1.Check into your local state parks. In the state of Maryland you go

dnr.maryland.gov.

From there you can click on the area you would like to explore. It even breaks it down to things you would like to see such as waterfalls and if the park if pet friendly. Most parks have no or a low entrance fee. We have explored every waterfall in Maryland. Our favorite was Gunpowder Falls.

My family and I stumbled across the hike enjoying every second but at the end of the trail we didn’t know you could swim in the Falls. We didn’t have our bathing suits so we did the best we could. We through our shoes to the side and swam in small waterfall with our clothes on.

2.Local Nature Centers are very family friendly and host small events. Small animals relative to the area are displayed. My daughters were brave to touch the snake after it was given a bath in Bethesda. I cringed but I did it…., to make them happy. They also have interactive learning activities for the children. Watkins Park is Upper Marlboro is great to spend the whole day. They have it all, nature center, park, putt putt golf, small farm, and marry go round.

3.Bike riding is great cardio and helps your earn all the BBQ you'll be eating this

summer:) Usually local lakes have parks and small hiking/ biking trails. Our 2 favorites in our area are:Lake Artemesia with a trail is 2 miles and Bladensburg Waterfront Park. The picture to the below is of us at Wheaton Park feeding the ducks and watching the turtles.

Let me know of some events or activities you and your family do outside??
